Great! We will get starting in about 2 minutes. If you were not able to hear my sound check, please check your audio settings on your computer.
Good morning, everyone we will go ahead and get started. My name is Lindsey Munson. I am the associate director of admissions here at the McCourt school I just wanted to say thank you for taking time to sign into the web and R today to learn more about our graduate degree programs at McCourt just a little overview of we will talk about our graduate programs here at McClure. We are located at Georgetown University, which is in Washington, DC, and as you can see on your screen.
This is kind of a picture through the front gates at Healy Hall, which is kind of the iconic building that you'll probably see.
Most of the time if you were to Google, Georgetown, so old N which is our main.
Building from a court is right behind that building, so we're pretty much in the heart of campus, which is really nice. It's a beautiful campus. If you haven't had a chance to visit us. We encourage you to make a trip come maybe sitting on the class meet with some admissions representatives talked to some current students were always happy to host you here, so with that, said, will kind of give a quick overview of what we're going to talk about today. So I'm going to talk about our degree programs will talk about the McCourt community.
A little bit, then will briefly kind of touch on career development. I'll go over our admissions requirements and then I will take questions. You could put questions in the chat box throughout the web and R an I will try to answer them as we go. It's pretty informal so feel free to come to stop me are chime in if you need clarification or have questions but will also reserve time for questions at the end.
So to start will talk about our degree programs. We have actually have 5 degree programs and will talk about our executive degrees in a little bit, but first we're going to start off talking about these 4 degree programs. So we have our master of public policy or master of International Development policy or master policy management are Master of Science and data science for public policy, so like I mentioned we are Masters only school so we do not serve the undergraduate population and we do not have doctoral students. So we good thing about that is all of our resources go.
Into our graduate students and so we offer a lot of support.
And you're not competing with undergraduates or pH DS for our resources are services, which is a great benefit to our master students.
Our flagship degree is the MPP so our master of public policy. It is our oldest and largest program here at McCourt kind of overall philosophy of McCourt is we're all about driving evidence based policy making decisions and educating our students with the skills necessary to go out and drive evidence based policy so our MPP curriculum.
We are pretty quantitatively rigorous so it's a 2 year full-time program. There is a part time option. You can complete that in 3 years is 48 credits 30 credit hours of core curriculum as I mentioned required terribly focused so there's a 3 course. Quantitative methods sequence in the core curriculum and we think that is one thing that sets are MPP program. Apart from other MPP programs is that we do the 3 most other MVP programs require 2.
So you're taking statistical methods, Republic Polisy regression methods for policy analysis in advance regression.
Methods in New York going to be taking 2 intermediate. Microeconomics courses and then 3, political process and institutions courses and so will be taking a public policy process a public management in an ethics course for the management and process courses. You have the option to do the domestic version or the international comparative version, so there's a little bit of ways to specialize kind of even in the core curriculum.
And then there is a capstone experience in that 6 credits where you have the option to do the thesis, which is more individual research or a client based project where you're working with a team of working as a consultant group with an actual organization serving as kind of a consultant team to them over the course of the second year, giving them recommendations, and kind of using the skills that you've picked up in the classroom and applying them in a more real world setting.
And then you have electives an RMP is our most flexible degree program and you can use your electives to really tailor the program to fit your individual interests and needs.
We don't have any formal concentrations, but you could informally concentrate if you wanted to or you can mix and match with different policy areas, you could take more skills based courses.
So or you could take electives. We do allow our students to take electives that are other graduate programs here Georgetown so.
If you wanted to take a class at the Business School. The law school foreign service school on those tend to be pretty popular and then we also have a DC consortium or you can take electives at other local DC area schools, so that GW George Mason American.
Howard in Maryland and so we'll talk a little bit more about electives in a little bit. But there's a lot of options that you can use to kind of tailor the MPP curriculum to fit your specific needs.

Do you think a student with a degree in a field with no quantitative background, will be in a disadvantage in this curriculum? Do you divide student classes based on their skills and strengths?
Moving on to our master of International Development Program. RMIVP program is a more specialized program that equip students with the advanced quantitative skills needed to formulate evidence based policy solutions while delivering expert expertise in political politics management in the ethics of development.
It's a smaller cohort so I guess I failed to mention that the MPP is the full time program is about 125 students full-time entering the program and then the evening. Cohort is about 20 to 25 students them. IDP program is a smaller cohort of about 25 students that enter each year and there is a work experience requirement for this program are MPP did not have a does not have a work experience requirement, but because the MIDP is very specialized program. We do require 2 years of.
Postgraduate relevant work experience.
As a full time only program that can be completed in 2 years. It's also 48 credit hours. Um it's like I mentioned it is more specialized so there's 2 additional core courses and 2 fewer electives. The core courses. It still quantitatively focused so you're going to have the three course quantitative methods sequence and the two macroeconomics courses. All of those are going to have some sort of International Development spent to them, so they would be focusing on the development world and.
In all your case studies and problem sets are going to have some sort of developments then to them.
And then you're going to have 2 development policy courses, so a public finance in developing countries and sustainable development and then 3 management and institutions courses management and leadership in developing countries political economy and developing countries and ethical issues in development and then the capstone. There is no thesis option, so it is just the client based capstone.
So that will be a group of MIT students working with an organization that they're assigned to over the course of the second year.
There's also a summer experience requirement for them. IDP program students are required to spend at least half of their summer in a program relevant to.
A program relevant professional placement of their choice and so most of them work in developing countries. And many find physicians working on rigorous impact evaluations in the field and then finally you have 12 credit hours of elective so again. This is where you can kind of further specialize Ann Taylor, the program to meet your specific interests.
And someone I think Michelle is asking um. Let's take a question real quick do you think that student with a degree in a field with no quantitative background will be at a disadvantage in this curriculum do you divide student classes based on their skills and strengths so the only and will talk a little bit more about prerequisites. Once we get to the emission section. But the only prerequisite for RM IDP an MPP program is the principles of microeconomics course and even if you don't have that you can apply without it and receive a conditional admission.
So we do see folks coming with not a lot of client background that are looking to build their quantitative skills. They notice kind of that's a gap in their skill set that they're coming to our programs to develop.
And so you know, we have a math camp in orientation. We do require the microeconomics prerequisite. You have to take that if you haven't taken it before you start the program in the fall. So we do our best to kind of get everybody equipped with the basic skills that they'll need to start the quanta. Nikon curriculum, but you know, obviously if we do have folks coming from more statistics backgrounds or economics backgrounds. They'll have a different advantage, then maybe other folks that have more.
Policy experience so everybody is coming in with a little bit of a different competitive advantage and disadvantage. So it's kind of the first semester. Everybody is kind of trying to figure that out, and then it kind of, after the first semester. Things kind of tend to everybody kind of figured out what their strengths are where they can improve an everybody is kind of got the first semester under under their belt.
Know that they're going to be OK and be successful in the program and everything kind of everybody. There's like a big sigh of relief after the first semester, so definitely don't be concerned. If you don't have a lot of quiet background. We're here to help you with that. We just want to in your application see that we think you could be successful in the types. Of course, is that we offer so if you don't have much quant background. We may take a heavier look at your quantitative jury your motivation statement is important. So we can kind of see that you've really thought through.
Our program and no kind of what you're getting into and how you think it will be beneficial to you, but will talk a little bit more about that at the end, so I hope that that kind of answered your question.
Michelle Zayed
09:13:32 AM
Yes thank you :)
So we're moving to our data science for public policy program.
OK Great Awesome Michelle.
So our Master of Science data science for public policy program is our newest program at McCourt. Our first cohort started in fall 2018. So we have 2 entering classes. We don't have a graduating class yet.

Good evening from Uganda! What are the GRE cut off scores for MPP?
And McCourt teamed up with George Jones, graduate analytics program to develop a unique curriculum at the intersection of data science and quantitative public policy analysis, an eclipse graduates with cutting edge computational analytical and leadership skills so this is also a smaller cohort more specialized program of small cohort of about 20 to 25 students. It's a full time only program and can be completed in 2 years.
It's 39 credit hours so this does not mean that it's less rigorous and RMPPRMIDP programs, which are both 48 credit hours. It just means that the courses that you are enrolled in are probably going to require a little bit more prep time, more time, completing homework assignments outside of the classroom. So it's a core heavy program. It only has 2 electives. So we didn't really want to sacrifice any of the core curriculum for them from the Masters of public policy.
And then the Master of data Analytics. So it's a pretty core heavy program your teeth game.
2 Semesters of accelerated statistics for public policy. This two semesters is the 3 course. Quant sequence of the MPP but you're just taking it in 2 semesters, so that's why it's called accelerated and then there's 3. Semesters that foundations policy courses, so the MPP core courses that I talked about so one intermediate microeconomics. Course one public policy process course and then the public management course and then there's 15 credits of data science courses, so data visualization foundations of data science.
Applied statistical learning advanced modeling techniques and massive data fundamentals. You'll have an ethics course and then there's a data communication course there is also.
An emphasis on communication in this program just because we have seen I have a disconnect between computer scientists and policy experts and it kind of the thought process behind that is what's the point in having all this data. If you don't know how to communicate to the people, making decisions about it, so data visualization and the communications courses really.
Trying to help our students to be the liaisons that really understand the data side, but also can look at it through Apolosi lens, So what questions to ask and know how to talk about it to people that are making decisions so we can drive that evidence based policymaking or our students are making the actual decisions so.
That's kind of the rationale behind that and then 6 credits of elective so 2 electives and then there is a data science in action similar series. This is not for credit, but it is required and so the data science program hosts. These approximately once a month and the sessions law students directly interact with leading experts who are applying data science, so important policy challenges.
Alright so are NPM curriculum are Masters of policy management, so this is our midcareer program, which is a little misleading. You only have to have 5 years of professional experience to apply to this program. Most of our students have 9 to 10 years, so the midcareer is a little misleading since we do.
Anticipate most people working more than 10 years.
But the requirement is at least 5 years of professional experience in the program is really taking a 30,000 foot look at policy making and it strikes a balance among analytics management, and substance within specific policy areas, so the cohort of MPM. Students is comprised of about 60 to 70 students. This program starts in the summer or the other program start in the fall. This is a one calendar year program so it's a summer fall spring for full time students and then it's also a part time option or you can do summer fall spring summer fall spring.
It starts with 4 summer institutes in the summer and they're offered in week long sessions. So public management. Public policy process ethics and public policy decision making for public policy, so their weeklong during the day even for part time. Students so as a part time student in the summers. You would need to arrange to will be taking to each summer so range for at least 2 weeks of time off from your employer to to join the Institute and then you're taking 3 additional core courses so there's
Research methods economic analysis for public policy, and management of program evaluation.
And then there's the capstone project and this is a semester long assignment, which culminates in a paper that demonstrates the students ability to integrate consideration of analytical.
Management and advocacy issues in the pursuit of solutions to a specific policy issue.
And then there's 12 credits of electives.
And this, this cohort is unique so we have traditional MPM students coming into the program from all over the Globe and then we also have a cohort of 20 army captains from the from the Joint Chiefs of staff at the Pentagon that join us for the program and then we just partnered with the National Urban Fellows. So they send us about 25 to 30 students that are along with their programs that complete the MPM curriculum so you have a really diverse set of students with.
Valentin Scham
09:19:30 AM
can also the double degree candidates (HEC: MiM MPP) choose between the capstone project and the thesis?
Different experience kind of coming in to the cohort together to to pursue the MPM so it's a very exciting and dynamic group of folks.
We talked a little bit about electives. But here are just kind of a sample of policy areas that are students tend to be popular for students to kind of focus on again. We don't have formal concentrations and so you can really use the electives to kind of make the program specialized to your needs.
And I also mentioned you can take other graduate level courses at Georgetown through SFS. The Business School law school and then again, the DC consortium agreement. You can take electives at GW Mason Howard, American in Maryland. You're only taking I think one elective your first semester, so you do have time to kind of get familiar with the elective offerings 'cause. There's just a lot within McCord and then outside and you have a excellent academic team that's very familiar with the course offerings in so you can meet with them.
One I want to kind of strategize your elective.
Courses that you plan to take to really kind of.
Round out your your degree program.
And here's this sample of some fall 2019 electives just to kind of give you an idea of the range that we offer.
And I'll be sending out these slides so you'll have all this information. You don't need to worry about writing it all down.
And we also have a number of dual degrees. This is only for our MPP program so they're only full-time options. So we've been mpio MBA so international organizations in VA and this is with school in Geneva will talk a little bit more about that in a minute and we have an MPP JD degree MVP NBA MVP Master of Science in foreign service MVP in Master of Arts in German in European Studies. We have 2 joint PhD programs so one.
MVP PhD in government and one MPP PhD in psychology.
To apply for dual degrees, the application project process is completely separate for each degree so you would need to work with MPP Office and then also the admissions office for the other degree that you're applying to so for example, if you're applying to the MVP. JD I would encourage you to reach out to the Law Center each program has different application requirements. Deadlines kind of what they're looking for so make sure you're kind of touching base with both offices to make sure you kind of know what all the requirements are.
With the exception of the Master of Science in born service, you can apply simultaneously to both programs or during your first year of one of the programs so.
Like I mentioned the MPP MSFS you have to apply simultaneously because some of the core curriculum is being overlapped in the first year. So basically the advantage of the dual degrees is that their accelerated programs. You're getting 2 degrees in the time it takes to get one and a half for the price of 1, 1/2. For example, the MPP is a 2 year program that JD is a 3 year full-time program. You can complete that dual degree in 4 years MVP is a 2 year program MBAs into your program if you were to do them separately.
Um so again yes, you can apply simultaneously or if you aren't sure about you know you want to do the MPP but you're not sure about the JD you can apply to the JD program during your first year and then if accepted to both programs that's when you become a dual degree student and you work with the academic teams from both schools to make sure your schedule is meeting all the requirements for the dual degrees.
And let us talk briefly about our executive education programs. They are handled by a separate admissions office so if you are interested. We will have contact information on who to contact For more information, but we just kind of like to give a brief overview of our offerings so we do have an executive Master and policy leadership. These programs require and that we have an executive certificate in policy, leadership in both of these programs require 7 years of professional experience so there.
The structure is a bit different than our traditional courses. So, your taking hybrid courses.
For the info that policy leadership Masters. It's 10 hybrid courses. You're doing 5 days in person and then there's a two week on line learning period for the certificate in policy leadership. It's 5 hybrid courses 5 days in person and then 2 weeks on line learning period. They're both fall entry. the Masters program is 16 months, 30 credit hours and then the certificate program is 12 months, 15 credit hours application deadlines for international applicants is March 15th.
And domestic applicants is April 15th and then we also have a certificate in health policy. There's no work experience requirement for this program. It's there's a false spring or summer entry 15 credit hours. It's 5 in person courses offered on Georgetown's main campus so also different structured differently.
Application for file entries July 1 spring entry is N1 in March 1 March 1, is for summer entry.
McCourt students also have a number of global opportunities, including dual degrees with global partners study abroad options student run policy trips and a sustainable development project for example, past run non credit policy trips have included trips to Argentina, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico and Costa Rica are McCourt policy and practice, which is Mccourt's assuming organization here at Mcchord will talk more about those in a minute it's uh.
Are sustainable development project that provides students with a unique opportunity to apply public policy skills learned in the classroom to an underserved community in the Dominican Republic.
We also have a number of of credit programs. I think somebody was asking about the MIM program.
The Mpio MBA, which is the dual degree with the University of Geneva. So students complete 42 credit hours at McCourt 24 module courses at the University of Geneva and then there's an internship with an international organization. So it's a 28 month program. So, your first year your fall spring and summer. You'll be at McCourt your second year fall and spring. You'll be at University of Geneva. Your summer of it. The second year, you're doing your international internship and then your fall of your 3rd year, you're at McCord.

For letter of recommendations, is the platform just questions the recommender must answer or can they upload their letter? What is the protocol to submitting letters in my recommenders native language?
2 1/2 year program so you can apply simultaneously like I mentioned to both programs or you can apply during your first year at McCourt. They'll be like info session for first year MPs.
That that you can go to to learn more about the application process for the ION BA.
On the MVP Master in management tools agree with such a say in Paris.
This program is only available to current acche say Paris in my own student so you can't go the opposite way, so McCourt students can't apply to that. We're working on that right now to see if we can can do that. That way in the future. But right now, it's only available to current also say Paris in my aunt students.
So students complete their first full year MIM curriculum at objects. a Paris 36, credits at McCourt in an internship. It's a 28 month program your first year so fall. Winter spring and summer. You'll be at, I say your second year fall spring and summer your Ava. Koran then you're the fall of your 3rd year, you're at McCourt.
And then we have a few fall exchange programs and this is with the MVP program only, and it's during the fall semester of your second year so students can study for a semester at the Hurry School of governance in Berlin. They Lee Kuan Yew School of public policy in Singapore or the Jindal School Public Policy in India and so we see send students to these schools and then they send students to our program as well. So they might have some students in some of your classes that are from these schools that are doing a semester abroad.
Switching gears a little bit. I'm going to talk a little bit about the McCourt community, which is one of the very unique and an?
One of the most I think important and aspects of the McCourt School is just how engaged in diverse or student population is so we view the soon experience outside the classroom is just as important as the student experience inside the classroom.
And McCourt students often compliment their classroom learning and enrich their educational experience by participating in student organizations. An other engagement opportunities that align with their passions culture and career goals.
And this is just a list of some student organizations and activities that we have emocore. These are all student run organizations that you can get involved with these are just under the Cork school so it doesn't even include.
Organizations that are affiliated with work shown as a whole that of course, students can also get involved with so you'll see. We have our own Student Association McCourt soon to Association.
We have a public policy review, which is our student led and Run Journal. McCourt policy and practice, which I mentioned is the International Development group that goes through the Dominican Republic each year. We have a woman in public policy initiative. LGBTQ policy initiative that we have some organizations that are kind of policy area specific so.
At you want, which is kind of focus in education policy food and health research, according environment at NRG and then we also have some regional based organizations so Africa Latin American Policy Association. S American E Asian policy innovation lab, which is an awesome lab. That kind of focus on his on DC area policy and give students kind of that experiential education opportunity they work.
A long word 7 and 8 along the Anacostia River in our students kind of team up with the local government and other nonprofits in the area to do some service based policy work for underrepresented communities. There so really kind of getting some of that local DC policy experience and then we also have a public policy challenge, which is hosted up a Koran. It's gives our students, the opportunity to team up and kind of do a case competition tackling an actual policy.
Challenge in providing recommendations uhm and then they present their recommendations in kind of a case style competition.
We also have the Institute of politics and public service, so geopolitics is what we call it for short. It's a center at McCourt and it focuses on bringing students in public servants together, so their tagline is public service is a good thing. Politics can be 2. So the Institute. It's dedicated to reconnecting young people with the notion that politics is a Noble vehicle for public service. They provide a lot of programming for the Georgetown community and also bring on one of the Main.
Programming but they do is they bring five of the Top names in politics. Government and media each semester to serve as Fellows. So they the Fellows lead weekly noncredit discussion groups on a hot topic. They hold office hours for students so you can kind of meet with them to discuss basically anything pick their brain about kind of what your career thoughts are how they got to where they are what they would suggest.
They speak to a variety of campus groups so they do different panels. Different seminars, so do politics recently did the climate forum, where they had all the presidential candidates were invited to come. I'm going to talk about their views on climate change policy so that was the most recent exciting thing that they've done in a couple years ago, they did the did like a?
For President Clinton's I think it was the 25th anniversary where they they brought back all of his administration to kind of talk about the legacy of the administration kind of talk about what they remember from the actual campaign what they learn from it, what they would have done differently. What they thought was successful, so they do lots of exciting things like that where they're bringing.
Practitioners and leaders to interface with our students.
Students can also apply to join the student strategy teams that are assigned to each fellow and this is where they'll help with research campus outreach and they'll help the fellows come up with practical ideas to make policy politics work better.
So our current Fellows this semester include.
The former chief of staff to speaker Paul Ryan, former governor of Kansas, former press secretary to first lady Michelle Obama. White House correspondent for ABC News and the former deputy director of Obama's White House Office of public engagement, so they're doing all kinds of stuff all the time that's really exciting for our students.
They also have a lot of exposure to Polisy leaders. This is just kind of a list of different ways.
Mccor in Georgetown brings policy leaders to campus so we'll have course instructors. A lot of our adjunct faculty actual practitioners. And so they're teaching.
Class at night in working during the day so a lot of our electives are held in the evening to accommodate our part time. Students will have gas lectures. So a lot of our course instructors know, people in the policy world and they'll bring them into a guest lecture for courses policy dinners will there will be like a small group of students that go out to a nice restaurant in Georgetown with some fruit with the policy leader in different areas, just to kind of interface and Mormon, intimate submit setting.
Student trips, we have different lectures to politics, like I mentioned and then there's just a lot of Mccor in Georgetown campus events. Hillary Clinton was here. I think she's been here, several times, she was here last week.
For for a session so there's just stuff going on all the time at Georgetown and McCourt exciting place to study especially policy.
I'll briefly touch on research centers, so McCourt is affiliated with over 20 centers that are engaged in research. Professional training and sharing of information on a wide variety of topics from Congress health policy International Development Social Policy Research. Assistantships are available with the sinners. Anmcc or faculty. So we also have graduate assistantships in teaching assistantships available? How those thought process works is like closer to the start of the fall semester. Our academic team seems like a call for applications.
So you apply for those open positions at that time, we typically have about 60 to 70 assistantships available at any given time, so their competitive, but there are also a lot of opportunities.
So switching gears to career development at McCourt. We do have an office of career development that is dedicated to McCourt students. So you're not competing with undergraduates or doctoral students for their or other graduates at Georgetown for their services. So here's just kind of a list of all the services that they provide it's not a placement program. They kind of look at your career search as a parallel process to your academic career. I'm a quart they'll meet with you.
There is a session during orientation and will be emailing you even before the start of the fall semester asking for certain deliverables.
But they'll kind of overview their services and kind of give you a general timeline of what you should be thinking about when but they are available to do when I want to career advising and counseling appointments. There's they send out intern internship and job announcements.
Almost daily there's a on line jobs database. McCourt connect switches lists full time positions and internships tons of career events going on an employer info. Sessions and job fairs professional development workshops, so they're doing negotiations resume and cover letter reviews mock interviews. There's lots of networking opportunities and we also try to use our alumni network to connect our students with the larger McCourt.
And our graduates where they go. It is kind of a wide variety of places, but 94.6% of our students are already employed or have accepted an offer of 6 months without 6 months after graduation, employment by sector. This is looks a little heavily skewed towards the private sector. But this is I think 2018 data. But this changes each year really just depends on kind of the interests of our students. What's going on in the economy and also what's going on in the government.
You know there are hiring freeze you know just different trends and it does tend to shake out a little differently, each year. But on average. We do see about 1/3 of our students going into the public sector or 3rd going into the nonprofit sector. Another going into the private sector so working at the state, local federal levels of government nonprofits think tanks consulting agencies. Other corporate organizations that have policy positions open.
And then implement by region would you see a large percentage of students sticking around the DC area within 6 months of graduation it's just a natural transition were in DC. Lots of policy opportunities probably got an intern ships or that have led to full time offers in your networks here, but after about 6 months to a year. You do see folks kind of moving outside the DC Metro area back to either of their hometowns, home states.
We have a large international population about 35% of our students are international so folks going back to their home countries. So we have a pretty global alumni network.
And then finally admissions, so these are the admissions requirements. We do take a very holistic approach when we review applications. So we're going to look at everything you submit we're not going to use any numerical cutoff. It's all this information is on our website as well. So we do require the application. It's $90.00 to apply. We need to resume transcripts. We do need you can upload them sell them yourselves.
To the application, we do need transcripts from degree granting institutions? What we'd like to see is you've ordered an official transcript and you've scanned it in and uploaded it instead of just simply downloading an unofficial transcript. We would prefer to see an official transcript and so basically.
Will use that for review purposes and then if you're admitted and decide to enroll will ask for the official final transcript, which is basically sent from your University directly to us just so we could do our auditing their standardized Test score. We do require the jury for the MI B for the MP PM. IDP and data science programs because we have a lot of dual degrees for the MPP will accept the Gmat Elsa or Jerry.
An MIDP and data science will accept the jury or gmat, but the jury is strongly preferred.
Well, we require to photo for Ielts score if you're a non native. English speaker and then 3 letters of recommendation so it possible. We prefer 1 academic in one professional but it's really up to you. We understand some folks or further out of school so may not have a strong recommendations from professors so prefer to do 3 professional that's totally fine. We just want to hear from the folks that know you guys, the best and kind of speak to your strengths and how you be.
Contributing to our program.
And then I left the academic statement for last because this is probably the most important piece of your application because it's the only.
Time we get to hear from you as an applicant and why you're applying to our program so please. Yeah, it takes some time.
To perfect this through it's really just kind of a conversation getting to know you are, and what we're looking for is a good fit, not only are you a good fit for us, but are we a good fit for you so the strongest academic statements. We see our folks that can kind of articulate their passion for policy. What has sparked their interest in joining our program at this point in their academic and professional career and what kind of skills are they hoping to gain from our program that will help them generally in.
And whatever general career that they they think that they're looking for post graduation. So it doesn't have to be specific, but really just kind of looking to see if it's a good fit in both you couldn't have done your research and kind of know what we're about.
Prerequisites we do require like I mentioned the principles of microeconomics course for the MPPNMITP programs. If you haven't taken this at the time of application. That's OK, you can receive a conditional mission. Just meaning you need to take it prior to starting the program from an accredited University. It can be in on line class or Community College. It just has to be accredited for a letter grade and you have to get a B or higher. Our data science program. There's no formal prerequisites, but we do recommend a college level calculus class.
An that you've demonstrated some evidence of technical ability. Whether that be professional or or coursework in computer science advanced math or statistics familiarity with programming languages such as R, an Python is recommended.
And then work experience there is no work experience for the MPP or data science program so no work experience requirement on average. Our students to have 2 to 3 years. But we do see folks coming straight from undergrad students that have a couple years of experience that may not be policy related that are using the program to pivot to policy and then students that have a couple years of policy related experience. They're using it as a query enhancer. So a wide variety of applicants. We don't really have a set profile again. It's really that motivation.
Is this a good fit? What we're looking for and then the MIT Pi mentioned 2 years of relevant post graduate professional experience because it is such a specialized program. MPM 5 years of professional work experience on average or students tend to have 9 to 10.
Our application deadlines, um if you are interested in being considered for any merit based scholarship funding that are offers office gives out you should apply by one of our first two deadlines so early action deadline is December 1, our priority deadline is January 15th. These 2 deadlines are equally competitive in both admissions consideration an scholarship on the the main difference is the decision timing so if you apply by December 1, you get a decision by January if you apply by January 15th.
The decision by March and then our final deadline is April 1. This is full admissions consideration, but you're not guaranteed to be considered for scholarship just because at that point we typically allocated our funding.
And then finally he Contacts so we have our faculty directores listed here.
Hum that I encourage you to reach out to they are very accessible as most faculty is at Georgetown Animac. Or they're happy to answer any questions, you have from the faculty perspective we also have our associate director of Executive Education John Dolan listed here for folks that are interested in learning more about our executive education programs and then finally McCord Admissions. That's our general email account if you need to get in touch with us.
I'm either answering that email or our assistant director Trish Makowsky is so you'll get in touch with us pretty quickly.
And then it's about it, so we will take questions now.
So it looks like someone asked UM looks like joy from Uganda. Thanks for joining us. What are the Jerry cut offs for NPP and like I mentioned there are no Jerry cutoff so we don't have numerical cut offs at all. We take a very holistic approach. But on average for the NPP. We do see students scoring about a 160 and the verbal. Section 160 in the Quant section. Anna 4.2 and analytical writing and the average GPA is about a 3.5.

Hello, thank you for the presentation. I´m from Venezuela. I would like to know about financial aid and scholarships for international students?
So Michelle is asking for letters of recommendation as a platform just questions. The recommender must answer or can they upload their letter so it is they upload their letter. It's not a question answer thing so that you'll I think you'll fill out their information and they should get an automatic email with instructions on how to submit the letter of recommendation.
And then the protocol to spending letters in my recommenders native language what I would do for that is so we would need the original 1 and then we need a certified translation and so the translator should probably.
Pedro Casas
09:46:44 AM
Hello! Thank you very much for the presentation. Are there any activities or facilities for spouses/husbands from students?
Or I think the recommender actually you should have it.
You should have the original and you should have it certified in translator, it and then the recommender should upload both copies of that to the portal so they're the ones handling that and uploading it. It's not coming from you.

For applicants who meet the priority admissions deadline, what does a typical aid package look like?
If you have other questions about that or I think that might be too difficult. You can email us separately and will work with you.
So someone's asking about financial aid and scholarships, so for international students specifically but it's really for all admitted students so if you apply by one of our first two deadlines. You're automatically considered for merit based scholarships that we give out through our office. Those are mostly partial tuition. They can range from about 7500 to about 25,000 which is half tuition. 60% of our students come in with some sort of funding attached to their admissions offer an then.
We have 5 full tuition scholarships across programs and and those are called Armor Court scholars and they are folks that have done well academically, but have also shown leadership experience and potential and we think they'll be active contributors to our community. Once they arrive, so that process works. Basically, a short list of students is selected as finalists. They go through a short interview process on the 5 Fellows or selected.
And then we also have a financial aid office, where you can talk to them about loans. We also have a list of 3rd Party scholarship opportunities that we know of were not affiliated with them. But that's on our website. If you go to the tuition and scholarships page. You can you can scan that list to see if there's any that you would qualify for?
So someone's asking about facilities or activities for spouses for the students. I don't know if there's anything formal that Georgetown offers like I don't there's no courses that they have access to. I think there might be like a a gym membership. A discount or something. I'm not 100% sure if you wanted to follow up with me about that. I'm happy to put you in touch with our associate directors Junior Fair. She could probably get you more information also I can talk to you.
See if we can put you in touch with another current student that has has joined the program an in came with their family just to kind of let you know what their experiences been.

Hi! Is there a fee waiver code for attending this webinar?}
So someone's asking for applicants who meet the priority admissions deadline. What is it typical aid package look like it does very I mean? It isn't a guaranteed amount so like I mentioned they can range there, mostly partial tuition. They can range from 7500 year to about 25,000 a year. The average award is probably 15,017 five year.
Someone is asking about the Master of International Development Program. Do you think professional experience is important for this program? Yeah, so that is we do require 2 years of postgraduate relevant work experience so it is a very specialized degree. It's a small cohort that's the reason for that requirement it.
We want to make sure folks know kind of what they're getting into when they're starting that program because it is pretty specialized whereas the MPP is a little bit more flexible and you have time to kind of change your mind. If you'd like to after you start the program. It's also since it's a small cohort that experience with the students bring in is also really important, the classroom learning environment.
And we do not have a fee waiver code for attending this webinar. That's a good question. Though we do have some fee waivers that are available to students that are affiliated with certain organizations so for example, military connected students. PPI Fellows, Truman Scholars Wrangle Fellows. Pickering America or peace core so you could you could look at that list to see if you qualify and if you do you can email us and we will take a look at it?
Any other questions, we have about 9 minutes left.

In the MPP program what are some Capstone projects students are currently working on that you find interesting?
Rasha Mohamed

Do you have to be currently serving AmeriCorps member to qualify for fee waivers?
So someone's asking about the MPP capstone, so we don't give out.

Thank you so much
Specific project topics, but we do have some examples, so typically they're from public and not for profit sectors.
With a few private sector clients so for example, American Control Council for an energy efficient economy.
Aspire after school learning Empower Energean, Mexico FEMA, Georgetown's pivot program HCM strategists living water international World Bank.
National Institute of educational assessment in Ecuador.
Uh let's see we've had world pick World Bank Booz Allen Geo.
Various state and local bodies, one year, we worked with the Baltimore Police Department.
And some make off the dance mercy, core and some smaller international partners types of projects. They've included water quality. Health sanitation internal HR analysis for best practices education. Those are just some examples of what I would encourage you to do is we have a list of student ambassadors on our website that you can reach out to directly maybe try to find somebody that has like a similar profile as you can kind of feel free to reach out to them directly to see.
Their second year students they should be either looking on a thesis or capstone. Even kind of pick their brain. We also have lungs that are listed so you can always also reach out to them to kind of get more experience more.
And information about their experience.

If you could give us a piece of advice for this application process, what would be?
You don't have to be currently serving as an American remember to qualify for the fee waiver. You just have to be in America or a lum and you have to be able to provide a letter of service.
A piece of advice, I would say someone's asking if for piece of advice for the application process. I would definitely say that academic statement just taking his time to kind of really do your research and kind of think about what you want to say you know, I would make sure not to just repeat your resume because we are going to look at that as well, but give us like your experience an what about your experience.

Can you talk a bit about diversity and inclusion efforts at McCourt among students and faculty? Also wondering, would you consider the MPP a social justice-oriented program? Thank you!
In the past has led you to know that this is the program that you would like to apply for and how you can see it really being beneficial to you moving forward, So what can you bring to the program? Why you're interested in it and what you think you can can take from it as well to kind of help. You in your development professionally personally. I would think that would be my advice. I would also you know encourage you to reach out to current students listen our website.
You may be in touch with the faculty directors. If you're in DC come to campus visit a class just do as much research as you can.
So someone's asking about the diversity and inclusion efforts at McCourt. I would say there's a lot going on, especially right now. That's a big effort just because we have a new Dean her, her name is Maria Cancian and she is. She just started I think earlier this year is when she started but her one of her big focuses his diversity inclusion and in a variety of different ways, and one of her goals is to make mccor as inclusive.
As possible to facilitate dialogue about policies that are bringing people from different experiences and perspectives backgrounds to kind of all come together to work to improve policy to make the world a better place so.
That's a lot about what we're doing. I'm not really don't know all the specifics, but I do know that it's a big?
A priority of hers uhm. I think she's got a her, her whole platform is right now, her, her strategy and vision is is kind of broken down into 4 eyes and one of those is inclusion. Another is infrastructure, an another is innovation and then the 4th is.
Impact So what? What impact our students, having an alums having in the schools, having so that is just a big push for her and we also I would encourage you we have a policy perspective, which is our yearly magazine that we put out at profiles her and a lot of what our students are doing an another big partnership that we just took on which I think helps out a lot with diversity inclusion is that we just partner with the National Urban Fellows program on so that's bringing a cohort.
Of underrepresented students and women into our master of policy management program. And so there a lot of them are funded by partner organizations to join our program so that's been a big effort.
And we consider the MPP a social Justice Oriented Program, I think Georgetown in general is pretty social justice. Oriented we are. I think we're more kind of. We talk a lot about it being we have a lot of students coming to our program that are passionate about different policy areas, but we are educating them to be dispassionate. Polisy practitioners, just because you're looking at the data and having to analyze it in a way.
Where you're you're looking at what works and what doesn't work other than even if it doesn't really match up with what you'd like it to say so. That is kind of what are all about driving evidence based policy making decisions instead of using doing trial and error? Which we slot of time and resources. We want to be able to use actual data to make things better and more efficiently.
But I do think Georgetown in general, we are very inclusive. The Jewish traditions are all about men and women and service to others educating the whole person, giving back to the community.
Which I think really goes hand in hand with our our policy program in public service?
You have 2 minutes if anybody has questions.
